The YEO story
The idea for YEO was started back in May of 2006. We had learned that large companies and ISPs keep every email sent and stored them on backup tapes that are kept for at least a year if not longer. If you delete an email in your inbox and then again in the deleted folder it still is not permanently deleted. Once you send an email it is there for others to find for years to come. Even IMs and text messages are logged and kept. How would you, say, email a password or other sensitive information to someone in a world where all online communications are logged?
In June of 2006 we wrote the first version of YEO and called it "psst" and showed it to a few people. It didn't have all the features but proved the concept. The idea sat around for a number of years. Finally in July of 2010 we decided to launch the idea on the Internet. After thinking of many names, we decided on Your Eyes Only or YEO as a name. Well that domain name was taken so we decided on "YEO it" or YEOIT.com instead. It's short and easy to remember. The first version was launched in July 2010.
The site was functional but we wanted to do even better so in April of 2012 we totally redesigned the look and feel and added a number of new features like being able to see if someone has read your message or being able to recall the message if you change your mind.
We continue to add enhancements as they come up. Some ideas come from our users so feel free to write us with your ideas to make YEO even better.
